Islands

Did you know an island is a piece of land that is surrounded by water? The movement of the wind and waves piles the sand off shore making an island or as the plates under the earth collide they expand also they can be created by a volcano. An example of an island is Hawaii. Hawaii is a state in the United States. It joined the Union in 1959 as the 50 state it was formed by a volcano. Hawaii is located in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Hawaii has beautiful palm trees with beautiful flowers, beaches, and waterfalls. Sugarcane and pineapples are grown in Maui which is in Hawaii. Many food products are made in Hawaii like sugar, canned pineapple, bread, candy, dairy products, juices, and soft drinks.

In conclusion, any piece of land that is in the middle of a ocean is considered an island.
